Kiran and Bronwyn

Kiran and Bronwyn^[1] is the first episode of Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance.

Sypnopsis

"Jo focuses on two girls in trouble. Kiran is a four-year-old girl who has only ever eaten sweets. She wears the clothes of a one year old and is falling behind in almost every aspect of development. In desperation, mum Sophia has started to force-feed her child. For Jo this is one of the most shocking things she has seen in 20 years of childcare.

Jo also meets twelve-year-old Bronwyn: a girl who hates her appearance so much she is unable to lead a normal life. Bronwyn cries daily about the way she looks and compares herself harshly to celebrities in magazines. She now refuses to leave the house without spending two hours putting on makeup and mum Emma has no idea how to cope.

Turning her attention to the boys, in this week's Big Event Jo wants to know once and for all if violent computer games have an effect on a game player's behaviour. She also gives parents some practical advice on how to keep computer gaming under control." - Channel 4 website

Plot

Kiran

Kiran has only ever willingly eaten sweets her whole life since weaning. She would cry every time she had to eat regular food. This has resulted in poor health, hospital trips, and falling behind on development. As a last resort, her mother Sophia began forced feeding just so she can take in minimum calories.

Day 1

Jo arrives and Abid and Sophia discuss the problem. They revealed Kiran had to go to the hospital to get an I.V because of dehydration. They want her to eat what's placed in front of her and become a normal child, mentally and physically.

Jo shows them a tape of Sophia force feeding Kiran. She has her held down while shoving food in her mouth. Kiran cries the whole time, trying to spit it out or escaping. Jo explains that this behaviour is the reason why Kiran didn't want to try new things. Sophia made it a scary experience for her. Realizing what happened, Sophia agrees not to force feed her again.

Next is dinner. Abid and Sophia are to discuss something to distract Kiran and not to bring up food. Kiran was resistant at first. She did put some food in her mouth but needed a drink. She held up her hand in a drinking manner and poked Sophia's face to get her attention, but Jo tells her parents that she needs to use her words. Kiran didn't finish her food. Jo then tells Abid and Sophia that from now on, Kiran is only allowed to have 3 meals a day and no snacks in between, both to break her sweet eating habit and so she will have to eat her meals. She is sent to bed crying.
